Last week saw the launch of Birmingham Young Professional of the Year (BYPY) 2020, the flagship awards ceremony which celebrates the achievements of inspiring young people working in the city’s professional services sector.

We’re proud to be sponsoring the awards again for their landmark 20th year, as part of our commitment to supporting the progression and skills development of local young talent.

Over the last two decades BYPY has helped to encourage the growth of the professional services sector in Birmingham. The event recognises incredible talent across the Second City and gives the winners a platform to further their careers.

It fits perfectly with our CSR mission to make a difference to our local communities, an endeavour which also sees us support charity Dallaglio RugbyWorks in their mission to support youngsters who have fallen out of sustained employment, education and training.

The launch event took place at the packed out Colmore bar in the city centre last week, where it was filled with inspirational young people, including last year’s Aspire Award winner, Heidi Walford.

Having had a tough early start in life and tackling issues with homelessness, Heidi has taken everything in her stride and with incredible hard work and motivation is now working towards her exams to become a solicitor.

Speaking about the awards, Heidi said: “I remember speaking to Jayne at last year’s launch about entering but never thought I could possibly win. There were so many strong candidates, but it just goes to show that if you put yourself forward for these kinds of opportunities then anything is possible.”

Sam Miller, chair of BPS Future, said: “The BYPY committee have been working hard to ensure that this year’s event will be an extra special evening which pays homage to the region and celebrates the contribution that the last 20 years of incredible winners have made to the sector. “We look forward to welcoming all our finalists to the big event in June.”

Nominations are now open, with the ceremony being help at Aston Villa’s football ground, Villa Park, on 4th June.
